First, here are pics of Studio 2 that I promised yesterday:
and the Cave (the bar)
6am - Heart Rate Training
we talked about zone training, how to find your zones, and why its important to have a heart rate monitor. I had my heart rate monitor & watch with me, but the battery was dead. So I made a trip this evening to get a new battery for each item. I'll be ready to go with those tomorrow! The slides were being adjusted and there were some blank slides. The actual presentation was a little odd since it was in transition, but we got the basic concept.
7:15am - Breakfast
Each morning we get to choose our breakfast for the following day. Last night we chose our breakfast since we weren't there for breakfast. I guess we get fruit some mornings too. we had a berry cup today. I ordered Ezekial Toast with peanut butter and half a banana. I liked it so much that I ordered it again for Tuesday. I'll have to try other items on future days.
Notice the dinner board. "Pumpkin Seed Crusted w/ Orange Avocado Salsa & Carrots" What is crusted with pumpkin seeds and accompanied by the salsa?! (turned out to be chicken)
7:55am - Outdoor Activity (Assessment)
We went to the Spring Creek park for the assessment. we started with a warmup walk to the turn around tree.
We did a series of "how many ___ can you do in 60 seconds". like situps, and pushups. Then we did "how long can you do ______" planks and wall sits. Those wall sits hurt! The mats they brought for us were not very cushy so my knees were not happy.
My favorite part of the assessment was The Loop. We were given 1 hour and told to go around the loop as many times as possible in that hour. I was pushing it, trying to get all the way around in the hour - I was nervous that I wouldn't do it. When I finally made it the 1.2 mi around and asked for my time, I discovered it was 27:36 and I could afford to do another lap!. off I went. I finished the 2nd loop in 56:18 and then cooled down for the last 4 minutes.
We stretched & got back in the Biggest Loser Vans to go back to the resort.
A bench I did not stop at
Another bench I did not stop at
10:15 am - In Body 520
We learned how to read our weigh in charts. They're special charts that tell me how much body fat I have vs lean body mass. It also tells me how much water I have in my body and what kind of water it is. I was disappointed that there wasn't a measurement for quantity of Diet Coke in my body. I've been flushing it out with water over the last month, but I'm sure there's still some left in there.
the red blob is muscle and the yellow blob is fat. ewwwww
11:30 am - Lunch
I forgot to take pics of lunch. Salad bar, minestrone soup, pita with stuff on it. The soup was delicious. The actual pita was good. The stuff they put on it was again a little spicy but it had feta so that was good. At breakfast and lunch we pick up our snacks for each segment. For the mid-morning snack I chose Almonds and celery. I didn't like the fruit options so I didn't take one. For the mid-afternoon snack I chose celery, a banana and white bean dip. It was either white bean dip or an egg. I don't like eggs. Although I have been putting cut up egg white pieces in my salads.
a cool light at the restaurant
12:30 pm - Core Fundamentals
This was a nutrition class. It was the basics of how to compose our plates Fat, Protein, Carbs and the different percentages. We went over other stuff too.
1:45 pm - A.I.M.
This is Athlete in Me or Athlete in Motion. We had to pair up - Stephanie & I paired up. We got one mat and went out to the tennis courts. One partner did a movement like frog jumps or skater movements to the fence and back, and the other partner did an in-place action like pushups or squat jumps. And then we switched. So if I did the squat jump and Stephanie was doing the skaters, after Stephanie got back, I did the skaters and she did the squat jumps. I modified A LOT! but we got thru most of the workout - we only left the sprint with burpees at the end. Side Note - I have never seen so many golf carts lined up as I saw this afternoon. I wanted to go race them, but the golf guy Mike didn't like that plan.
3:15 pm - Poolates
After rushing to change into my swimsuit, I went to the pool and was the 3rd one there lol! I got in the pool - medium temperature, not heavily chlorinated, and immediately relaxed. I need to remember to bring my goggles next time so i can do a couple of laps while I'm waiting. I did one lap but my eyes hurt from having to sight so often. The actual class was a lot of core work. Really fun! And challenging. I changed clothes and moved onto the next...
4:45 pm - Carbs, Proteins, Fat
Another education class. It went into more depth on each of the titled items and gave examples. It was a big discussion class with a lot of feedback from everybody.
6:00 pm - Dinner
Salad, Pumpkin Crusted Chicken with Avocado Salsa, Chocolate Covered Strawberries
This was a great meal. The chicken was amazing. It felt like a huge portion though. The avocado salsa was weird - there was something crunchy that I couldn't identify and didn't like very much. So i ate that first and then ate the chicken. The strawberries were good. I cut them in half and ate them. I'm not a huge fan of strawberries, but making them bite sized made them easier
Yes I am super picky about food. But everyone talked about how important it was to eat everything that was served, even if we weren't that hungry - to make sure we got our 1500 calories in. There are To Go Boxes available if needed.
After dinner I went to get my battery for my heart rate monitor so I'm ready to go for tomorrow and then came back to my room. I've looked around a couple of times last night and tonight for group members to socialize with, but I think people really use the downtime to rest and recover on their own. Even though today wasn't super strenuous due to all of the seminars, I am still wiped out! But tomorrow is a new day!
